Harbours and Docks

Solutions for Engineering - Harbours and Docks
Engineering projects involving ship building, as well as works on docks and harbours use solutions from Leica Geosystems.
3D Positioning of Ship Block
This application report describes how the DAC-TC system is used to establish a 3D Building Frame System at the site and how this frame system is used when assembling the block structure. An example of such a structure is the double bottom of an “ecobox” type of carrier. más
3D Measurements Ship Block
Modern shipbuilders have widely adopted the concept of modular construction and are realising the benefits associated with these methods. Further improvements in productivity can be achieved if these modules are accurately built, avoiding the traditional excess material normally trimmed during the erection process. más
GPS along the Danube
Could the turbines in a new hydro-electricity generating station cause ships to drift within their shipping lanes? Following the construction of a new hydro-electricity generating station on the bend in the River Danube at the lower Bavarian town of Bad Abbach (Germany), it was feared that the operating turbines might have just such an effect.  más
Newport News shipyard
Newport News Shipbuilding is America’s largest privately owned shipyard. Since 1886 more than 800 ships and other vessels have been built. In early July 1997, three Leica Axyz STM-dimensional control systems with TDM5000 Industrial Theodolite were delivered to Newport News Shipbuilding. Ron Hicks is in charge of Newport News Shipbuilding's metrology department. NNS Technicians, Jim Bean and Bob Timberlake were among the shipyard's first employees to use the new instruments. más
Chantiers de l'Atlantique
“Chantiers de l'Atlantique” has started to use Leica 3D measuring systems in 1995. Due to the good performance of the Leica products they have increased the number of measuring systems considerably. All the users at the “Chantiers de l'Atlantique” highlight the savings the Leica systems have allowed them to make in terms of time and money. With the purchase of twoTDA 5000 systems (chosen because of the ATR) and associated software, they expect further productivity improvements in overlength management, which is a crucial problem for all shipyards and the main key to cut production costs. They are convinced that this tool fully meets their requirements. más
Thyssen Nordseewerke
Thyssen Nordseewerke GmbH, located in Emden on the North Sea coast, has a long tradition dating back to 1903, when the shipyard was founded as the “Nordseewerke Emder Werft und Dock Aktiengesellschaft”... más
